Privileging and Hypertext
Privileging of information ties into my view of the usefulness of hypertext
theory. Though I wouldn't say hypertext theory boils down to the idea of
privileging, I do think it's important in helping understanding the usefulness
of hypertext. As with the Bartons' conception
of creating more effective visuals and Beverly Sauer's
notion of producing more effective accident reports (which both stress the
idea making more information available rather than privileging only certain
information), hypertexts are more effective when they use
panoptic modes.
