Entering the Conversation

Access to information is one reason we should redefine our notion of the text. With Web documents it is also possible to include links to other available Internet services, such as e-mail and Usenet newsgroups. For example, I can include a link to my e-mail address, so readers can send comments directly to me. I can also include a link to a newsgroup devoted to hypertext--alt.hypertext--and readers can immediately post questions or messages. The Web, through its links to e-mail or newsgroups or other Internet services, allows readers to enter the critical "conversation" immediately.
