Writing without Thought
Michael Heim suggests that electronic writing means writing without thought. The notion that writing with a word processor means you don't take time to think about what you're going to write is confusing. In terms of writing hypertexts, there's a degree of spontaneity that allows authors to pursue associations that they might not pursue otherwise, but that doesn't constitute a lack of thought. Simply because one can easily change the position of certain parts of the text does not mean that the ideas are somehow inferior to ideas composed with a neat linear structure in mind.
